GLE Coupé: The Emerging Design Icon of the Mercedes-Benz Product Portfolio.
Since its introduction, the
GLE Coupé has opened up Mercedes-Benz to the full-size sports utility coupé segment
and it continues to thrive as one of Mercedes-Benz most sold vehicles around
the world. Its design combines SUV and coupé elements, while its handling
combines performance and agility. The result is a vehicle, the like of which
has never been seen before for people looking to impress.
The most striking aspect of
the GLE Coupé remains its dynamic and revolutionary coupé like design. This has
aided in its perception of being sporty and yet very high in comfort. The
sporty, imposing exterior of the GLE Coupé underscores it’s on-road character
with a coupé roofline, hallmark SUV elements and standard-fit 50.8 cm (20-inch)
light-alloy wheels, this makes it a significant standout from the GLE and the
other SUVs from Mercedes-Benz.
The emergence of the GLE
Coupé sees a combining of two classes of vehicle, each with its own distinct
style to make a new model.
In addition to convincing on-road vehicle dynamics, the GLE Coupé looks
impressive as well. With its flowing side contour, elongated and low
greenhouse, striking radiator grille with central chrome louvre and rear end design,
the GLE Coupé cites styling features typical of particularly
sporty Mercedes-Benz models.
The prominent front with
radiator trim typical of a coupé differentiates the Coupé from the GLE at first
sight, with key design features like the Contoured powerdomes on the bonnet
that underscore its performance capabilities and the Vertical radiator trim
with centrally positioned Mercedes star, typical of a coupé with single louvre.
The front bumper with diamond grille and the generously sized simulated underguard
in chrome look gives the GLE Coupé the typical SUV appearance. While the LED
High Performance headlamps create a highlight both during the day and at night
thanks to their distinctive design, with daytime running lamps featuring LED fiber
optics integrated into the upper part of the headlamps.
In design terms, the
coupé-typical lines of the side view underscore the sportiness and on-road
character of the GLE Coupé. 50.8 cm (20-inch) light-alloy wheels are fitted as
standard for the first time, also new is the range of up to 55.9 cm (22-inch)
optional light-alloy wheels, for an impressive appearance. Cladding on the
wheel arches and above the side skirts differentiate the Coupe from the GLE and
underscore the SUV look. There are also Illuminated, aluminium-look running
boards with rubber studs (846) for an enhanced SUV look and more convenient
entry and exit for the driver and passengers. Other key features of the side
design include the long wheelbase with short overhangs for impressive
proportions, a roof line which drops towards the rear for a coupe-typical
silhouette and low windows, high beltline and a dropping line for an exciting
sense of dynamism.
The rear end design is
eye-catching, thanks to the low roof and impressive vehicle width. The two visible
tailpipe trim elements integrated into the bumper for all engine variants
reinforce the sporty impression, the functional tailpipe trim comes in
conjunction with petrol engine variants only. The two-piece, widely stretched
tail lights make for a sweeping rear end, with all lighting functions featuring
LED technology. Another design highlight is the rear bumper with chrome-look
simulated underguard, license plate holder integrated into the bumper like on
the S-Class Coupé. There is also a tailgate with an aerodynamically shaped
spoiler lip and coupé-typical raked rear window which stretches across the
entire width, the chrome panels in the tailgate above the tail lights emphasize
the vehicle’s width.
In
the interior of the GLE Coupé the best of both worlds can be found. Luxurious
extras ensure the exclusivity typical of Mercedes-Benz. With a hallmark SUV
sense of spaciousness as well as signature coupé sportiness and exclusivity,
the interior design highlights key features like; shoulder clearance in the front
and in the rear compartment similar to in the GLE with three seats in the rear,
signature coupé sportiness and elegance with sports seats (244), leather
multifunction steering wheel and upper part of dashboard in ARTICO man-made
leather as standard as well as luxurious extras such as interior air ionization
with air filter (P21) for hallmark brand exclusivity and a panoramic sliding
sunroof.
The high seat
position typical of an SUV make for very convenient entry (+ 260 mm compared
with an E-Class), also the rear doors open 2 degrees wider than on the GLE for
comfortable entry.
The
GLE Coupé is more functional and comfortable than any other coupé on the
market, thanks, among other things, to the three seats in the rear and also the
standard-fit equipment including reversing camera and LED Intelligent Light
System. With the presence of an SUV, the agility and elegance of a coupé, the
GLE Coupé makes the best of every ground. The GLE Coupé is available in
authorized Mercedes-Benz showrooms and dealerships across Nigeria.
